Multipoint control unit (MCU) is a hardware system that helps to organize group video conferences between multiple videoconferencing systems. MCU connects endpoints supporting different protocols/codecs and helps in conducting group video-conferencing between them by mixing media streams from all the connected endpoints in real time and provide a single transcoded stream to each endpoint. During such conference, all endpoint devices communicate only through the MCU.

Room based video endpoint enable meeting rooms to perform video conferences. Room based video endpoints have components such as Camera, Microphone, Video Codec and Remote control. Video Codec is a heart of the endpoint having multiple industry standard connectors for Audio, Video and Content streaming. Codec connects to displays like LCD, Audio systems like mic, speakers and Content sharing devices like laptops and PCs. Codec encode and compress audio/video and content streams from the range of audio/video protocols like H.265, H.264, H.263, G.711, G.728 and sends the data to far end device on the pre negotiated protocols.
